WHAT IS REMIX GALAXY?

Remix Galaxy is a web community that offers the world’s largest inventory of music in multitrack stem format for remixing and the tools you need to customize or remix your favorite songs. Remix Galaxy is more than a store. It is a community where you can create cool music, show it off, get feedback from other members and leverage the knowledge base of our users to learn more about remixing.

WHAT IS A STEM?

A stem is an audio file that contains a particular element of a song such as the vocals or a particular instrument. When a song is recorded, each part of the song is generally recorded on a separate audio track. Because of the complexities of modern music production, a particular part may require multiple tracks. For example, the lead vocal track of a pop song might be made up of 20 or more separate audio tracks. A vocal stem would combine all of these tracks into a single audio file. A drum track might have separate audio tracks for each drum, plus overhead and ambient room microphones. These tracks could be condensed into a single drum stem. Stems could be created for any other element of the song. At RemixGalaxy.com, you have the chance to purchase stems for your favorite songs, giving you separate audio files for the major elements of the song, so that you can customize or remix the song any way you wish.

WHAT IS IN A STEM PACKAGE?

For most songs, RemixGalaxy offers at least 2 purchase options. The Basic Pack includes 2 stems, an acapella and an instrumental. The Expanded Pack includes 5-8 individual stems covering the major elements of the song. Every package also includes a high quality MP3 (non-DRM) version of the finished song.

DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL TOOLS TO CUSTOMIZE OR REMIX A SONG?

RemixGalaxy provides a simple yet powerful online music production tool called mixSTUDIO. Any stem package you purchase can be imported into mixSTUDIO for customizing or remixing. Using mixSTUDIO, you can change the volume of the individual parts, change panning, add effects like delays and filters, rearrange the parts, add new audio elements, etc. Stem packages can also be downloaded to your computer for use in any commercial music production software (such as Pro Tools, Logic, Garage Band, etc).

I’VE NEVER DONE A REMIX. HOW DO I GET STARTED?

First of all, welcome to RemixGalaxy. We’ll have you up and running in no time. The first place to go is here to watch an introductory video that explains briefly how to use the mixSTUDIO online remixing application. It’s about 5 minutes long and covers the main features of mixSTUDIO. Then check out the forums where you can ask questions and get answers from experienced musicians.

CAN I SELL MY REMIX?

No. Your purchase of a stem package is governed by a limited license for noncommercial personal use. You may not sell your remixes, nor are you allowed to sell or otherwise distribute the song stems or full songs that you buy on RemixGalaxy. If you wish to remix a song for commercial use, please submit a Commercial License Inquiry. Upon receipt, we will endeavor to work with the owners of the music to accommodate your request, although the decision to grant such a license will be made solely by the owner of the song.

BUT I CAN SHOW OFF MY CREATIONS, RIGHT?

Of course, that is what RemixGalaxy is all about! There are several ways to show off your remixes. Once you’ve finished your track and saved it, it will automatically be stored on your account page. To add it to the public RemixGalaxy site, you need to publish it by simply pressing the “PUBLISH” button next to the song name on your account page. This will make your song accessible to the RemixGalaxy community for listening. If you publish you remixes, other RemixGalaxy users will be able to hear them, review them and rate them. It’s a great way to get feedback on your work and improve your skills.

WHAT ARE THE GREEN, YELLOW AND RED ICONS NEXT TO THE SONGS?

Our catalog includes a wide variety of content procured under different license structures. Songs with a red icon are traditional MP3 downloads (i.e., not multitracks) whose licenses do not allow remixing. Yellow icons indicate that a song is available as an MP3 (or WAV in some cases) that may be customized or modified in mixSTUDIO or other software. Songs with a green icon are available as traditional downloads, as well as multitrack stem packages, both of which are remixable. In all cases, the licenses are for personal enjoyment, and the songs and your remixes may not be sold or otherwise distributed. It's about having fun!

I DON”T SEE THE SONG I WANT TO REMIX ON YOUR SITE. CAN YOU GET IT?

In the Forum section of the website, there is a place where you can request stems for a particular artist or song. We will contact the owner of the song and do our best to get it on our site for you to remix. It won’t be possible in all cases, but we will try.

I AM A LABEL OR INDEPENDENT ARTIST…HOW DO I GET MY MUSIC ON REMIX GALAXY?

It is easy to become a content provider at Remix Galaxy, and it is a great way to increase exposure to your music and to create a deeper connection with fans. If you are interested in selling your music in multrack remixable format at Remix Galaxy (or even giving it away for remixing – a great promotional tool), all you have to do is contact us at content@remixgalaxy.com. It doesn’t cost anything for you to become a content provider. There is only upside!

HOW DO I REPORT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY VIOLATIONS?

If you believe that your intellectual property rights are being infringed by users on our site, please contact us at rights@remixgalaxy.com, and we will investigate the situation and remove any infringing content.

CAN I ADVERTISE ON REMIXGALAXY?

MIXSTUDIO
Our browser-based mixer lets you remix songs or create original songs with ease - even if you've never done it before! Edit songs track by track, changing the volume or panning for each part individually. Fade in the drums, boost the bass, or add audio effects like delays or flangers. Upload your own sound clips to add to the mix, or search our public database for clips to use. You're limited only by your imagination. THE STORE
In addition to a full catalog of MP3 downloads, RemixGalaxy is the internet's largest inventory of multitrack recordings - songs where each part is separated in its own audio file. You can take a regular MP3 and customize it in MixStudio, or buy multitracks for more detailed remixing. When you buy a multitrack, you can use them in MIxStudio or download the files for use in Pro Tools, Logic or nearly any commercial mixing software.

MULTITRACKS
When you buy multitracks (or stems, as we often call them), you have a choice between a basic pack, which has the acapella and instrumental, or the Expanded Pack, which has 5-8 stems, depending on the song. For example, the Expanded Pack might include separate files for lead vocals, backing vocals, drums, bass, keyboards, lead guitar and rhythm guitar. These stems come from directly from the source - the original recordings � so they are high quality audio files, not lo-fi studio trickery.

YOUR REMIXGALAXY
When you register at RemixGalaxy (it's FREE!!!), you'll get your own profile where you can keep track of all the music you buy, the remixes you make, and all of your works in progress. You can upload sound files to use in your projects, create playlists of your favorite songs, bookmark favorite artists in the RemixGalaxy community and communicate with other members via email.

YOUR REMIXES
Every time you create a remix or original song, you can show it off to the world. Other users can listen to it, rate it and comment on it. You'll get great feedback on your work! You'll also be able to embed a widget on your MySpace page or in an email to let more people hear your creation. After all, RemixGalaxy is all about letting you BE HEARD!

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
RemixGalaxy is also about sharing and learning. The forums are where you can go to ask questions, get answers and become a better mixer. Or just browse through previous posts to learn from the experts. Then apply what you've learned to your next mix and wait for the kudos to come pouring in!

While users have access to over 2 million MP3s on our site, the Stem Store is a separate area where users can browse and purchase multi-track song files to remix. Users can search for a particular song or artist or just browse the store. Featured Songs and Artists are displayed on a rotating basis.

Each song has its own page with detailed information about the song and choice of formats for purchase. Typically, there are 2 options for traditional downloads: high-quality MP3 and uncompressed WAV. There are also 2 choices for Stem Packages: The Basic Pack (typically acapella and instrumental)and Expanded Pack (5 - 8 stems typically vocals, drums, guitars, bass and keyboards) The stems come from the original recordings, so they are high quality audio files, not lo-fi studio trickery.

When you become a content provider and seller at RemixGalaxy, you'll get a profile page which includes information about you and your music. It also links to all the content you have available for sale at the site. If you're a label with several artists, not only will each artist have a profile page, but your label will have one of its own, which displays and links to all artists on your label. We'll even provide banners to put on your own website(s)that you can link back to your RemixGalaxy Profile!

Our browser-based mixing application(MixStudio)lets users remix songs or create original tracks with ease - even if they have no experience working with music. They can edit songs track by track, changing levels or panning for each part individually. They can upload their own sound files to add to the mix and use a host of audio effects like delays, EQs, chorus and flangers. It is a simple yet powerful tool used to attract and engage music fans while providing additional exposure and sales of your music. Users can show off their creations in the RemixGalaxy community. Each remix has its own page where anyone can listen to (but not download) the remix. They can also rate it and review it. It is a popular aspect of the community that keeps users engaged and encourages them to return frequently. Every time a user listens to a remix, your music is exposed to another potential fan who may want to buy the original song or stem package to make his own remix.

The RemixGalaxy Widget is a full featured device including a flash music player. It is designed for increased exposure of the music, keeping users engaged and attracting new users. For each remix they create, users can use auto-generated code to embed the widget on their MySpace or Facebook pages, blogs, websites or any other social networks on the web. The player streams the remix directly from our servers, preventing downloads. RemixGalaxy will also help create customized skins for your promotional widgets!
